Name of the organization OMIX Tomiño
Name of the project Please contact them directly: lamoyano37@gmail.com
Country and city Portugal
Length of the project (in months)
Starting date
Deadline for application
Description of the project and tasks Our organisation (OMIX Tomiño) has two volunteers from Greece and Romania since July 2013. They will be here until July 2014.  New project will be from July 2014 until July 2015.

Now, to get more clear picture about voluntary work in our organisation, one of our current volunteers  is going to describe the project:

OMIX Tomiño is a youth information organisation located in the small village called Tomiño. It is municipational organisation which is responsible for developing free time activities for young people. During the year OMIX has various projects for people under 30/35 years: courses, workshops, activities in highschool, activities for small children.

Our main tasks as EVS is volunteers are to organise English course for local people, to make some presentations about our cultures, to make informational classes about EVS project in highschool, to create activities for small children (e.g at Christmas time), to work together with a group of volunteers from Tomiño, to support pupils from High School twice a week during the afternoom etc.

For example, during the first three months we have had four groups of English. Now in December we are starting with new groups. During the last weeks we have been to highschool almost every day to make presentation about EVS or about our cultures. Together with local volunteers we also went to secondary school to speak about bullying and to show some movie clips to the students. In Christmas time we are going to make workshops with small children. Also we are going to prepare course of traditional food in  our countries and days with our cultures (national dances, some music etc). Next year we are going to highschool with our coordinatior and local volunteers to make some lessons about sexual education.

In addition, as the coordinatior of OMIX Tomiño is very open-minded and active person, she is always open to new ideas and suggestions. So if you are a creative person and you have ideas what to do with young people, this project is certainly suitable for you!

What is also good about this project, is that you can organise things from the very-very beginning. It is not only playing with children or doing some already prepared activities with young people. You are involved in the whole process, you can come up with your own ideas, you are going to make a poster, description/project what you are going to do exactly, you can also participate in the meetings in the townhall where they disguss upcoming projects and how the money should be separated. You are going to be part of all the steps of youth work!

If this all sounds good to you, you have chosen the right project!

Application procedure – CV

– Motivational letter

– Contact of your sending organisation. Sending organisation is an organisation in your home country who will be in contact with our organisation and who will be responsible for all the papers which are necessary. If you do not have a sending organisation yet and you do not know any this kind of organisation, the easiest way to find is from the database for all the EVS accredited organisations – you just need to put to the search sending organisation (SO) and the name of your hometown.

If you are interested, pay attention to deadline. We are going to make the selection soon and we need to prepare all the documents for this time!

Best wishes and besitos from Tomiño

To disseminate and broaden the experience and expand the results in society a CD will be created with the presentation of the project, a documentary, and talks in various associations. in a radio and TV , newspaper of the association Fem Historia and Amigos de Unesco.
Youth policy is the topic to be treated a lot with the volunteers, the importance of young people for the future of EU and issues as discrimination, gender equality, or cultural diversity.
Within activities of Casa Eslava inter-religious dialogue takes a very strong position, and there have been held several inter-religious meetings for example, the meeting of women of different religions, on July 6th, 2010, at Casa Asia in collaboration with Department of Religious Affairs of City of Barcelona and on June, 20th, 2011, with the Department of Multiculturalism and the Associació for a Krishna Consciousness of Barcelona.
Also in the project European Cultural Emotions will be paid special attention to inter-religious dialogue and its influence on European cultural identity creation, with an analysis at EU level.
With that objective in our mind we need the volunteers from different religions, for example, someone from the Orthodox world, Catholic and Muslim.
Through their relationships, the volunteers, from different religions, are going to recreate the situation in Europe of today and their activities will support the projects of inter-religious dialogue and make part of the project on European cultural identity.
Also both the volunteer from Catholic and Islamic world will be able to help Orthodox person to solve the puzzle of conceived ideas on the Serb community and their isolation and stereotypes that exist between Serbs on Catalan and vice versa.
Prevention of risks, security and protection:
There are 4 people who will be in charge of the volunteers’ work and training: senior volunteer tutor, tutors, tutor junior and psychologist.
Senior Tutor deal with all legal matters, accommodation, food.
Tutors are responsible for training of volunteers.
Junior Tutor will be responsible for their social life and will be with them when the support from the association is needed.
Psychologist will do the first interview for a definition of a mood, psycho-social characteristics of volunteers and their perception of the world at that time.
At the end of the volunteering the psychologist will make the final interview and meanwhile/ between the 1st and the last interview, once a month volunteers will be visited at home and work.
Also one person, outside this circle, will be responsible for volunteer work of EVS team, supervising all activities of volunteers and their “tutors.”
There will be a course on living standards, protection, cooperation, life in Barcelona and work in associations for all volunteers.
The volunteers will be covered by the Group Insurance Plan for EVS volunteers and insurance from AXA during the time of the project.
Special needs (if applicable):
Social, cultural and emotional needs are one of main objectives in our work from the very beginning of our activities. We have psychologists, educators, therapists and lawyers as volunteers who are prepared to work with people with difficulties. The idea is to work with each volunteer from the phase of planning and preparation, the period of their staying in Barcelona and the evaluation and dissemination phase of the project. In all phases, the volunteer will have a dynamic role. Most of our work has been done by volunteers and in developing our activities and projects is very important that the volunteer should make a commitment in performing a necessary task for the organization. Issues such as responsibility, perseverance and motivation of volunteers to the signed tasks are essential for the successful relationship-volunteer organization and both parties must get involved to make this possible. For that reason it is very important to know the different types of volunteering in the field of non-governmental organizations and which activities are possible to be done in each of them. The EVS has all the features that make possible finishing a project on the basis of good collaboration between all parts . Promoting intercultural learning and social inclusion of young people and allowing them to participate actively in an organization in a different country and offering contact with other cultures, promote the establishment of new relations and exchange of experience between institutions from different countries: these are all reasons that motivate us to take part in this type of volunteering. Participation in EVS for our organization would be the first time with this project.

Application procedure Profile of the volunteer(s) and selection process:The volunteer is required to be interested in an experience of active citizenship and non-formal education and to be open in acquiring social, cultural and personal skills. It is essential that volunteers are involved fully in the project at all stages: planning, development and evaluation.
The selection of candidates for volunteers will be done through selection based on received applications with CV and motivational letters.

Auryn Youth Association has as one of its main objectives bringing the European reality to young people of the city of Leon, promoting values such as solidarity, commitment, multiculturalism understood as richness and as a value in a society in which citizens from different backgrounds live with each other. Description of the project and tasks The volunteers will colaborate to dinamize a telecenter: area where is provided training courses in the fields of computing, technologies of the information as well as advice about Internet access, or handling of computing software. Therefore, the volunteers will actively colaborate to help the users of the telecenter, whom a large part are immigrants, or families with low wages. They will be helped aiming to enhance the access and formation of the users. The second action in the field of our activities is called “El sur en el Aula”(“the south in the classroom”): Young people building an intercultural society, phase II”. It deals with an awareness project towards solidarities values in classrooms of secondary schools of the province of Valencia. The project will include specific working groups of video production, of image and social networks, so that the youth would design together an awareness campaign. The volunteers will participate in all the process of this project, creating materials and supporting the dynamizer of these working groups as in the preparative work as in the classrooms.
Moreover is previous the participation of the volunteers in all the coexistence activities of the Agora program scholarship holders, as well the formations as the recreationals’ ones.
Therefore, the volunteers arrived through the Youth in Action program will be directly integrated in the current activities like collaborator, intenting to bring a new apportation, adding activities, and supporting the coordinators of each activity. Once again, we want to emphasize the participation freewill of the volunteers in the various fields, so that it’s not a closed action plan they can interact in the various areas depending on their interests and personal skills.
The project foresees a weekly commitment of 32 hours (are included the language training course and also the computing and audiovisuals tools ones). The typical weekly schedule can be the following: from 9 am to 1 pm, collaboration in the telecenter. From 1pm to 3 pm, lunch time in the residence. From 3 pm to 7 pm, collaboration to prepare the awareness Project materials and/or working groups courses provided to collectives of the neighborhood. Currently, the Castellan courses are provided in the “Ceimigra”, a foundation who has historically been collaborated and still collaborate with our association and with immigrants associations of Valencia. It’s intensive courses and we contemplate proposing 3 sessions of 2 hours a week for a period of approximately 3 months. This system operates well though we are opened to suggests and changes. The computing trainings will be provided during the 2 or 3 first weeks. Yet, there is a continuous training as well in computing as in audiovisuals tools with the guidance of the awareness workshops dynamizer.
Application procedure For our project, with regard to the volunteer’s profile, we’d like to rely on motivated persons with social commitments, who are also interested in participating in actions in a local community which count on specific features peculiar to the province where we take part. They must be ready to learn from this process and from this experience. The volunteers must also be interested in contribute their point of view, their participation in the educational process like a tool for the development, being precisely the non formal education our intervention area. All those that come through this program would always rely on people in their environment, in such a way that it will mainly deal with groups’ activities. So it’s also very important for us that the volunteers would be ready to learn from the other ones, and to contribute and participate with his own ideas and initiatives.. The information about our project is permanently available in the program’s website, so that the interested people would constantly send their cover letter and C.V. For us, this confirms that the information is available for everybody.

. From our association, and with the participation of the board of directors, we will make an evaluation of the various volunteers’ perfiles who apply, to select the people deemed able to adapt to our Project, for their motivation, for their interest in the interculturality and citizenship participation matters, and also thinking of the youth that would, the best way possible, get something out of this experience. Fairness and transparency are assured as we are going to give the chance to any person interested regardless of their origin or any other feature.

. We are convinced that the selection process will be interesting to share ideas, wishes and expectations, in such a way that each part, as the volunteer as our hosting organization entity, would converge to an agreement in connection with the kind of Project we want to carry out in team. We’re counting on various activities so that the volunteer would choose the kind of action where he wants to be involved, trying various actions so that he would place himself and identify himself in the area of his choice.

. The contribution of the volunteers will definitely not stand in for a job. First of all because it deals with actions in support of other programs. Also because the volunteer will mainly design the time table depending on his interests to participate in the actions, and finally because a person responsible for each Project will always be there to guide and help him in this process, that we consider like a learning process and not at all as a substitution of a job. This doesn’t prevent the possibility, for person who come as a volunteer from acquiring competencies, taking responsibilities and even leading some activities from his own initiative. We consider the fact of enjoying of this opportunity as a great chance. But as we previously said it will never deal with job actions but definitely volunteering actions mainly focused on disadvantage population.

. We don’t ask any specific competences

Description of the project and tasks Volunteers will work on their own projects which supposed to be aimed at developing new methods for working with LGBT youth. These projects will depend very much on volunteer and give an opportunity for her/him to integrate his/her own ideas, experiences and initiatives in the project. Volunteer’s projects will be supervised by LGL Volunteer Coordinator. Bigger projects and ideas can be developed with some help from a team of international and local volunteers. We would like a volunteer to help us to “reach out” to young LGBT persons in Lithuania, to help us build safe and inclusive space for those who experience discrimination, prejudices and exclusion in their social environment (e.g. schools, universities, families, etc.). Therefore, volunteers will be encouraged to organise social activities, targeted at LGBT community. It can be various lectures, workshops, movie nights, theatre groups, informal trainings, peer-to-peer groups etc. LGL volunteer coordinators as well as other LGL volunteers have skills and experiences in the field of informal education, therefore EVS volunteers can learn by working with them. The project will give volunteers new experience, knowledge and skills on our organizations way of advocacy and international work. In order to learn volunteers will get to work in teams together with LGL staff: human rights advocacy experts, lawyers, activists who have many years of such work etc.A lot of volunteers are debating about choosing a career in an NGO, most of them are doing a lot of project activities: application writing, implementing, reporting. If volunteers prefer to learn new skills in application writing, experienced employees from the organisation will supervise volunteers and train them to do that, while not putting too much responsibility or pressure on volunteers. Moreover, volunteers will be helping out with administrative work of the organisation, as well as communication with international partners, organisations and networks such as ILGA-Europe, IGLYO, ANSO, EP Intergroup on LGBT rights, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, ILGA, FRA etc; Also coordinating Baltic Pride activities, which will take place in Tallinn and Riga in 2014-1015.

In these meetings we share the tasks, reflect personal situations in the project, plan new events or workshops and discuss new opportunities. Also, after every open evening we create a safe space for sharing and reflection of the day, for feelings and ideas. Furthermore, volunteers as our team members would have a possibility to participate in cases analysis. It is very important for whole team to communicate and have the same ideas about harder cases as much as to know how to react on them or in different situations (About 10 % of the time).- Activities with the young people during the opened evenings, four days per week. During the opened evenings we sometimes have concerts or workshops, but sometimes young people just come over to have a cup of tee, to chat or to play board games (About 50 % of the time).

– Distribution of the information about the activities of the youth centre. We try to spread information about concerts and workshops in Kaunas. It would be helpful if the volunteer would take part in this process, in form of making flyers, information booklets, handing them out in the street (About 5 % of the time).

– Preparing the space for the activities, whether it’s out or inside (About 5 % of the time).

– Implementing his/her own initiatives and ideas. Open youth centre is a perfect place for self initiatives and creativity. Every workshop, project, concert, idea or any kind of activity is very welcomed (About 15 % of the time).

– Street work. One day a week we will go to work in a street and try to reach those youngsters who are not reachable by any institution or organization. Volunteer will have a possibility to be a part of this new process (About 5 % of the time).

– Work in office. Some work such as administrating social networks, mail, creating posters or helping other A.C.Patria‘s centers with their work have to be done in the office (About 10 % of the time).

This is just general schedule. As there are a lot of different activities and events going on according to the volunteers who are implementing them so the activities depends a lot on the volunteers abilities (there are different language clubs, guitar lessons, ceramic workshops, sign language lessons etc.).

Description of the project and tasks Proposed ActivitiesThe volunteer is supposed to cooperate with the teachers. He/she has the possibility to work with all pupil groups. The pupils are between 6 and 15 years old. The volunteer should enrich our daily work with his/her inputs concerning his/her home country. There is a wide range of possibilities for activities for the volunteer in our school: arts, sports, music, dance, theatre, radio, games, but also just giving information about his/her country and people. One of the most important principle of our school is “learning by doing” and so there are many different ways how the volunteer can integrate himself/herself in our school and, together with the teachers, do activities for and with the pupils (e. g.: singing songs in his/her mother tongue, dancing typical dances of his/her home-country, cooking typical meals, introducing popular games that people in his/her country like playing, supporting the radio-shows of the pupils and bringing information/music of his/her country, making arts with the children in the “creative room”, making projects about different topics about the home country of the volunteer, ..) Adjoining to our school there is a big outdoor-area including a sports – field, a playground and a forest. So there is plenty of room for the volunteer to support the teachers in diverse outdoor-activities (sports and games). Presently they are very keen on building their own little camps, so why not support them in this activity? The volunteer should cooperate with the teachers and should bring in his/her own ideas for his/her work in the school. He/she should also make his/her own projects, which will be guided and supported by the teachers, as he/she likes it. Such projects of the volunteer can be for example in the fields of music/dance, arts, sports, culture of the home country, radio or theatre. Which projects the volunteer develops depend on his/her interests and talents. In addition to all we would like the volunteer to participate in excursions and little trips and to take part in our winter- and summer-camps. We have a weekly meeting of the volunteer with the teachers of the groups the volunteer will be working with. This is to enable all parties to coordinate their individual activities with and for the pupils. There is a staff meeting once a week to which the volunteer is invited.

The volunteer will not be living in a “live-in community”. The volunteer will get his or her own apartment or share apartment with other volunteers.Role of the EVS volunteers
The volunteer are going to have a very central role in the project. We believe that it is important for the children and youth at our youth centre to get the opportunity to meet new cultures and new people. The volunteer are going to support the youth in their ideas and at the same time help the staff at the youth centres to come up with new ideas on how to develop the organisation and the different activities that are done at the youth centre. The volunteer are also going to have a big opportunity to develop his or her own project ideas but at the same time help us to develop the areas that the youth are most interested in. At Stadsparkens youth centre the youth has shown extra interest in develop the music part and especially scratching and at Kristinebergs youth centre the youth has shown interest in learning more about dance and theatre. This is also two things that we hope a volunteer are going to be able to help us.
As a volunteer at one of our project you will also have to work evenings and weekends.
The volunteer will work next to the staff of the Youth Centres, so his/her responsibilities will be limited. The volunteer will be responsible of his/her own project, having the contact person of the Youth centres as mentor and if he is not available there will always be some colleagues to take over. The volunteer will always have somebody to turn to. The head of the youth centres will be the reference mentor and a staff member will be assigned to be the volunteer’s personal mentor. The volunteer has only one mentor independently of where he/she works. The projects contact person will be supervising the volunteer when necessary.
During midterms the youth centres are closed for 3 weeks when the staffs have vacation. The best thing for the volunteer would be to take vacation at the same time as the staff. If that´s not possibly the youth centres can offer work at other places in the same organization as the youth-centres.Activities for the volunteers
A volunteer at our project are going to get the opportunity do take part in a lot of different activities. As we said before we hope to find two volunteers that are extra interested in helping us to develop Kristinebergs dancing activities and Stadsparkens music activities and this is including helping us build the up the music room. For example, one of the tasks can be to teach youngsters how to dance or how to play some kind of instrument. But of course the volunteer are also going to get the opportunity to help and support us in the daily job with the café, different sport activities, when we go somewhere or when we organise a concert or an exhibition. The volunteer are also going to support and help the youth in the different activities that they want to do. It is not easy to say exactly what it can be because it can vary from day to day but it can be organise a table tennis tournament, billiard tournament or organise one of the girl or boy group activity. When the volunteer comes to us he or she will get the opportunity to try out all the different activities that we organise and it will also be up to the volunteer to develop their own project.
The volunteer are always going to be supported in the work by someone from the staff if the volunteer want the support.
There are several things the volunteer will do on regular basis such as work in the cafeteria, socialize with the kids, play indoor- or outdoor activities, participate on staff meetings, etc.
The youth centres organize drug and alcohol free events every month (i.e. disco, soccer tournaments, cultural festivals etc)
The volunteer will always be part of these projects and assist the meetings.
In case the volunteer has problems to create his own project it´s always possible to look for new ideas with the mentors or any staff member.Volunteer profiles and recruitment process
We are looking for two volunteers that have a big interest in coming to our project and to Oskarshamn to help us develop the youth centres. We especially hope to find two volunteers that have an extra interest in helping us developing the dancing activities at Kristinebergs youth centre and music activities at Stadsparkens youth centre. But the most important is that the volunteer is drug free and that you have an opened mind and that you are interested in sharing your background and culture with the projects youth and staff as we are interested in sharing our background and culture with the volunteer.
We receive the applications from the volunteers through Kumulus. We try to give a reply to all volunteers informing them that we have received their application.
The recruitment is going to be done together with some of the youth and the staff at the different youth centres and we are also going to have the support from the coordinating organisation of Kumulus from Kalmar. We will save all the application until it is time to select the volunteer and then we will read all the applications at the same time.
